Building gender parity at Real Estate events (UKREiiF 2023 Fringe Event)

Are women being given the opportunities and support they need to attend and shine at high-level Real Estate events?

Gender parity remains a persistent obstacle in the construction industry and within it, the Real Estate industry is no different in suffering from outdated male-dominated networks. Women continue to be underrepresented at Real Estate events like MIPIM that perpetuate the ‘lad’ culture that has dominated the industry for years. While we have seen improvements with the number of women in attendance at MIPIM rising, gender parity is still disturbingly low. Are women being given the opportunities and support they need to attend and shine at these conferences?

This session will touch upon the online response of the recent social media content posted by the ‘MIPIM Lads’ Twitter account that highlights gender biases and the subsequent article in The Architects’ Journal. We ask: Is the MIPIM Lads Twitter account a real representation of the state of affairs of our industry events today or is it a gross exaggeration of male values in the industry for comedic effect?

Join Women in Architecture (WIA UK) for a lively debate with a power panel at this UKREiiF 2023 Fringe Event, where we will discuss:

·    How can we create inclusive conversations and spaces for women in Real Estate and Construction events, particularly at large and high-level industry events?

What has worked in the past, share stories of success, impact and lessons learnt along the way.

Please join us to collaboratively work out how to improve gender balance at public events through constructive dialogue and positive action.
