Nicola McLachlan and Jude Barber of Collective Architecture will provide a brief background to their practice and the Voices of Experience project they co-lead with Suzanne Ewing of ESALA. They will discuss the importance of relationships, connections and sharing common ground – and how these allow their studio, and the Voices of Experience project, to grow and flourish in ways they sometimes don’t fully anticipate.
About the Speakers:
Jude Barber and Nicola McLachlan are both architects at Collective Architecture, based in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Collective Architecture is a 50- strong, employee-owned and controlled studio founded on principles of creative freedom, equity and sustainability. Together, the team has delivered several key residential, civic, strategic and cultural projects around the UK and was named ‘Architect of the Year’ at the UK-wide AJ Awards.
Jude, one of the studio’s directors, was named ‘Creative Industry Leader of the Year’ at the 2018 Scottish Women’s Awards, is on the RIBA Architects for Change Working Group and was recently appointed to Glasgow’s Place Commission.
Nicola, on the Board of Trustees, was named as one of YWCA’s ‘30 under 30’ change-makers during 2019 and is an active member within the EAA/RIAS. In parallel with their studio practice, Jude and Nicola co-lead the Voices of Experience project with Suzanne Ewing. The project shines a light on women’s contributions to architecture and the built environment.
