About this event
Following two highly attended workshops, the WIA Mentoring Programme team wants to continue to set you up for a successful 2023 with a deeper dive into what it takes to forge your career in the built environment industry today.
Tania Ihlenfeld, architect, author and WIA Mentoring Lead is hosting a workshop focused on navigating career paths. Our intention is to share stories and experiences from four incredible women who have navigated very interesting careers and are helping to shape others on their path too. We have heard from many women and people of marginalised genders and communities that it is challenging to see a clear path for them. Beyond the progression from graduate to assistant and on to senior-level responsibilities and leadership . . . we want to explore the current realities as well as future opportunities.
Tania is joined by Karen Ridgewell, Climate Emergency and Sustainability Lead for Creative Scotland. Karen has led an absolutely fascinating climate and biodiversity-focused career working within architectural practices, numerous charities, and as a Design Council Expert Specialist.
Our second guest is Sarah Beth Riley, Associate Director at Be First, Barking & Dagenham. Sarah “enjoys making little bits of the city”. She has transitioned from architectural practice to the public sector and has extensive experience with design reviews and expert panels across London.
Our third guest is Hazel Whittaker is a mentor in this year’s WIA Mentoring Programme and founder of Curio Careers. Hazel is a recruitment specialist within the built environment industry who brings a wealth of knowledge about navigating career paths. She is keen to share her insights into common struggles as well as future trends.
Our final guest is Julia Finlayson, Public Realm Lead at Argent LLP.Julia is a landscape architect by training, with over 20 years of experience. She has successfully transitioned from private practice to a high-profile client organisation where she leads public realm strategies for regeneration masterplans.
We intend for this to be a highly engaging conversation where you will walk away feeling enlightened about the possibilities for you and those around you. If you can’t make it on the day, don’t worry - register anyway and you’ll receive a recording of the workshop.
