WELCOME TO THE WIA NEWSLETTER!
Hello! The aim of our monthly newsletter is to keep in touch and provide you with some insights into how we can recognise and tackle gender disparities in our otherwise progressive industry. We love design and we love buildings and we don’t want any more women leaving the profession because of the environment they work in. We promise never to ‘Mansplain’ or ‘Womansplain’ for that matter. And we try to keep our editorial positive, with tips, events and news from all over the UK.
No one has the answer or a quick fix to the challenges we face which is why we need this network, now more than ever. We always welcome your feedback as we strive to support, inspire and champion women in architecture and diversity in architecture as a whole. So, please tell your friends and colleagues and share!

THREE COLOURS Blue/ Liberté: How do Women Experience External Spaces?
Women in Architecture are presenting a series of three events: Three Colours: Blue White Red. The first event Blue is in collaboration with the London Festival of Architecture, the RIBA and Herman Miller on June 26th.
Blue explores the creation and reaction of spaces and their intellectual, psychological and physical significance, particularly in relation to gender.
Please join us for an enjoyable evening of film and networking over a few drinks and nibbles.
OPEN CALL
We are extending our deadline to Friday 7th of June for the call out to submit films as part of the LFA festival.
Where do we walk? Where do we feel safe to go? Women in Architecture UK is seeking short and micro films that explore exterior spaces and gender.
Architecture and film have long enjoyed a close relationship; from the earliest days of cinema, film has been fascinated with the city. Film also provides a way in which we can explore the inhabited experience of city spaces in a way that takes us beyond the traditional tools of architectural representation.
WHERE TO NEXT?
Our series of events will continue in the autumn with ‘White’, which will deal with boundaries and exchange, covering transactional and in-between spaces.
To be held on Wednesday 2nd October, at RIBA 76 Portland Street. Please save the date in your diary as details will follow soon.
For the future, we will expand our educational and inspirational aims by posting records of our events and written pieces on the website - leading up to a publication next year. Please get in touch if you’d like to contribute.
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Thanks for supporting Women in Architecture. We’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts about what you’d like to see from this group and the events. Please email us at Hello@wia-uk.org or get in touch via our social media links. We look forward to seeing you at an event soon.
